Decentraland and Upland Host Metaverse Carnival
20 February 2023

Upland and Decentraland have teamed up to host the famous Brazilian Carnival in the metaverse. Users from around the world get a chance to experience and celebrate the unique event in an interactive space. The virtual Brazilian Carnival will start February 16 and will take place throughout the rest of February 2023.

The Brazilian Carnival is a world-famous celebration of life, culture, and music that attracts millions to the streets of Brazil. Due to the pandemic, the event was canceled in 2021. To keep the Carnival spirit alive, Decentraland and Upland are taking the party to the metaverse, offering an interactive way to participate in the festivities. They are breaking down barriers and allowing users worldwide to participate in the festivities. Dirk Lueth, Co-Founder of Upland, said that this is an early example of the future, where interoperability between worlds and metaverses fuels enrichment in a user’s digital life.

Carnival in Upland

Upland's metaverse has an exciting lineup of events for the Brazilian Carnival, which includes carnival schools, street carnivals, shows, and live broadcasts. One of the highlights of the event is the 2023 samba presentation by Mangueira, the largest Samba school in Brazil. Visitors can immerse themselves in the Palace of Samba, which is a 3D replica of Mangueira's samba sanctuary located in the famous Mangueira neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro. The virtual replica is situated at the same address as the physical location and provides a behind-the-scenes experience to visitors. During this experience, attendees can learn about the school's history and this year's samba while dancing with their avatars, adding to the immersive experience of the event.

Carnival in Decentraland

Decentraland, on the other hand, provides an innovative and exciting platform that will allow users to experience the Brazilian Carnival like never before. Participants can fully immerse themselves in the celebration with their avatars, dancing to the rhythm of Brazilian music and enjoying the colorful parade of samba schools. The newly released collection of samba movements and other traditional festival elements will further enhance the experience for users. Famous samba school Mangueira also receives a special homage in one of the Decentraland Carnival bulletins. In addition to the immersive experience, attendees have the opportunity to view pictures of the twenty titles won by the pink and green samba school. Moreover, digital influencers Nina Verso and Tang Poko will be present at the dollhouse party venue to interact with visitors, enhancing the virtual experience with more excitement.

Conclusion

The event organizers believe that bringing the Brazilian Carnival to the metaverse is an excellent opportunity to showcase the potential of virtual worlds and connect people from different parts of the world. The event is expected to draw thousands of attendees worldwide, bringing the spirit of Carnival to their homes.
